We're Back

I know it's been awhile since either JP or I have posted, and I am certain all 11 of our readers have been dying to know what, why, and where are we? Well, you can officially stop holding your breath as I am back, and with a little twist of the arm, I am sure I can get JP to write one of her roll on the ground, tears-in-the-eyes-laughter posts again.

I know that JP has been busy writing new books, being an awesome Mom, and promoting her new YA release, "Relatively Famous," which is a fun, fantastic, and terrific read. I think she's definitely found a new genre that she loves! The next one she is working on right now is also wonderful, and I can't wait for the release. That's all I am saying...keep your eyes peeled for it to come out.

For me--where have I been and what have I been up to? Okay for those of you who care, here goes; I am now working full time for my family's business, and some of you know that we make sports medicine products for horses, and all sorts of other equestrian related items. I took on this role because my other passion besides my writing is horses, and also because my dad asked me to. The difficult thing here is that my Dad has been diagnosed with Parkinson's, and it has not been an easy road. The good news is that my Dad is a very upbeat, optimistic man, who maintains a great attitude, attends his physical therapy (4 days a week), and is determined not to let the disease dictate the rest of his life for him.

As I have had to make adjustments and become a corporate type, I have had to also make adjustments where my writing career is concerned. Trust me that over the past few months, I have wavered with the idea of even giving it up, as I found myself being pulled in a few different directions. However, I have said this when I have spoken to various writers' groups--"A writer is always a writer." And, that is still true with myself. I can't stop writing. I have kind of come to a place, though, with the writing that is very different from where I was a few years ago--when what seemed to really matter was getting books on bookstore shelves and hitting a bestseller lists. Now, what matters is just those few precious moments I get each day to create on the page.

I have been asked by a handful of readers if there will be more Nikki Sands' books? Yes, most likely 2 more.

Michaela Bancroft books? I have one in the works, but it may or may not ever get out there.

A sequel to Happy Hour? Possibly, but I am not currently working on one.

Anything new? Yes, but it's a secret for now.

For those of you who don't know, I have a new short book out on writing. It's a compilation of the different talks and workshops I have conducted over the last couple of years. There are easy to follow worksheets, ideas on how to plot, characterization, etc. The book is up on Amazon and is also available on Kindle. It's titled "A Writer's Workshop." There is also a short story featuring Simon, Marco, and Ollie the dog from the Nikki Sands' mysteries ("Dog Gone Dog") available on kindle, as well as a handful of my other books for $2.99.

So there you have it! I am still writing, and I will be back on the blog again. I hope you will keep coming back!

Cheers,
Michele

Sorry to hear about your Dad, I hope things work out for you. Good luck with the writing too....as somebody who works full time - it can be hard to do other things you love after a full 8 hours at the office.

I finished reading Happy Hour recently and loved it! It's a wonderful, fun, heart-felt book that I really hope you will write a sequel to one day!

All my best to your dad, I'm hoping he feels well. I'll be kepping you both in my thoughts.

Guest Blogger Jessica Park and Chapter One of "Cook the Books."

I am very happy today to have my good friend Jessica Park share the first chapter of her next book, "Cook the Books," due out in March. If you haven't read a Gourmet Girl Mystery, you need to. They're everything a good mystery should be and more--They're funny, romantic, mysterious(duh) and just plain fun. Do yourself a favor and read the entire series. You won't be sorry! Without further ado... Chapter 1 I have a love-hate relationship with Craigslist. On the one hand, I adore poking through the online classifieds for items I don’t even want—Swedish bobbin winders, chicken coops, vintage Christmas ornaments—and for enviable extravagances that I can’t afford—like the services of someone to come to my house to change the cat litter. On the other hand, I hate getting sucked into the vortex of randomly searching for weird items and unaffordable services instead of looking for what I actually need. For example, at the moment, I absolutely had to find a part-time j

DADDY'S HOME

This is the book that really started it all in some ways for me. I'd been writing and publishing for eight years under my name. I'd written the Nikki Sands and Michaela Bancroft mystery series before DADDY'S HOME came out and I'd built a decent cozy mystery genre readership. I'd actually written Daddy's Home before MURDER UNCORKED came out because my initial intent as a writer was to be a thriller author. However, after sending Daddy's Home out on A LOT of unsolicited submissions I hadn't found representation and the idea for Murder Uncorked came to me...and viola...an agent loved it and sold three books in that series (two of them hadn't been written yet) in two weeks after signing me. Nine books in the two different series later both series were dropped and I found myself asking...what next? It was about that time that Amazon started the KDP program for Indies and I had five manuscripts that hadn't been published and none of them were what re

Powerless and Pissy

(The kid and I wrote this blog yesterday, but I'm happy to say we now have power!) Oh. God. Killlll meeeeeee! It’s Friday night and we haven’t had power since just before midnight on Thursday. I’m a baby about this. People have gone without the comforts of electricity for much longer than this, but I am near the edge of insanity. I have zero coping skills. Thursday 12: 10 a.m.: Wind is atrocious. Howling, annoying, relentless. The last woman is about to skate her individual Olympic performance and the power cuts out. Not that I even really follow women’s ice-skating, but I was following it at the moment. The noise outside is enough to wake the dead and I’m hearing something suspicious going on with the deck. I could maybe tolerate noise and fear of exploding transformers, but I cannot sleep without my beloved white noise machine. Will pray that husband falls into some sort of rhythmic and soothing snoring pattern. 12:35 a.m.: Husband is indeed snoring, but sound is laced with a
